What we fix on a brand-name unit

Almost every repair comes down to glass or moving parts. Fogged sealed units get replaced, and so do cracked and broken panes, laminated impact glass included. Sliders usually need rollers, tracks or guides. Casement and awning windows tend to fail at the crank or a hinge, while single and double hungs lose their balances and stop staying up. Locks, latches, handles, weatherstripping and worn seals round out most of the rest. 

Parts get matched to what is already in your wall. When something is out of production, we find the current equivalent that fits the same cutout, and our woodworking shop can reproduce a wood profile that nobody stocks anymore.

Questions about brands and parts

Do I need to know the brand before I call?

No, you do not. Most homeowners have no idea what is sitting in their walls, and that is completely normal. Manufacturers stamp a label in the track, on the balance or along the spacer between the panes, and our technician finds it during the estimate.

Can you still get parts for windows whose manufacturer is out of business?

Usually, yes. Plenty of the brands installed here in the 80s and 90s no longer exist, but the rollers, balances and operators they used were industry parts. We match by measurement and cutout rather than by the name on the sticker.

Do you repair brands that are not listed here?

Yes, we do. The names above are the ones we run into most, not the only ones we touch. What decides a repair is the hardware and the glass, and those follow common standards across manufacturers.

Will new glass match the rest of the windows in the house?

It will. Tint, thickness, coating and spacer color all get specified when the glass is ordered, so one replaced unit does not stand out next to its neighbors. What is already installed gets noted during the estimate.

Is the hardware you install the same as the original?

Whenever that part is still in production, yes. Once something has been discontinued, we fit the current equivalent that mounts in the same holes and works the same way, and you hear which of the two you are getting before anything is ordered.
