Windows on a barrier island take more abuse than windows anywhere else in the county. Salt spray, direct sun, and wind-driven rain work on the glass, the seals, and the hardware year round.

Atlantic Window Repair Inc. has handled window and glass repair on the island and across Palm Beach County since 2020. We are licensed and insured. Our in-house master technicians do the work.

In most cases we replace the glass and leave your existing frame in place. On older and architecturally distinctive properties, that is usually the only way to keep a window looking the way it was built to look.

What Salt Air Does to Windows Here

Properties on the ocean and along the Intracoastal see the same failures over and over.

  • Aluminum frames pit and chalk on the exposed elevation while the sheltered side still looks new
  • Insulated units lose their seal early, then fog permanently
  • Hardware seizes as salt works into balances, rollers, cranks, and locks
  • Perimeter sealant dries, shrinks, and lets water past the frame
  • Screens corrode at the bottom rail and pull away from the spline

None of that means the window has to be replaced. It means the failed part has to be found and dealt with before it takes the rest of the assembly with it.

Glass We Replace

The right glass depends on the opening, the frame, and the exposure. On this island, exposure usually decides it.

  • Single-pane glass in older frames, cut to match the existing profile
  • Insulated units where the seal has failed and the view has fogged
  • Laminated glass, which cuts outside noise as well as holding together when it breaks
  • Impact-rated glass for oceanfront and near-ocean elevations
  • Obscure, tinted, and low-E glass matched to what is already in the opening

The full range is covered on our glass replacement page, with hurricane impact glass and foggy window repair handled as their own services.

Sliding Glass Doors and Patio Doors

Sliders take the heaviest use of any opening in a house, and on the island they also take the most salt. A door that needs a shoulder to move is almost always running on flattened rollers or a corroded track, not a door that needs replacing.

Rollers, tracks, handles, and glass panels fall under sliding glass door repair. Locks and latches that no longer line up are covered by sliding door lock repair.

When the Glass Is Not the Problem

Sashes that will not stay open and cranks that turn without moving anything fall under window mechanism repair, torn or corroded mesh under screen replacement, and gaps around the frame under window caulking. Scratched and salt-etched glass can sometimes be saved through glass polishing rather than replaced.

Historic and Architecturally Distinctive Properties

Palm Beach has a lot of houses where a stock replacement window is simply the wrong answer. Original steel casements, arched heads, unusual mullion patterns, and wood frames that no longer come in the size they were built in.

This is where our own workshop matters. We build replacement wood pieces and custom frame sections in house rather than ordering from a catalog, so a repair on a distinctive property does not end with a window that looks nothing like its neighbors. Frame and sill work runs through our woodworking service.

Condominium and Oceanfront Buildings

A good share of the island is condominium buildings where the work has to be cleared with management, scheduled around residents, and matched to an approved product style. We are used to that process and confirm the specifics with the association before anything is ordered.

Building-wide and recurring work is handled through our condominium window repair and property management services.

Commercial and Storefront Glass

Worth Avenue and the surrounding commercial blocks run on glass. Broken storefront panels, failed door hardware, and damaged entrances are covered by commercial glass repair, and door units themselves by storefront door repair.

When an Opening Cannot Wait

Storm damage, a break-in, or a shattered pane leaves a property open to weather and to anyone walking past. Our emergency board-up service closes the opening properly while the replacement glass is measured, ordered, and cut.

How a Visit Works

  1. You call or book, describe the problem, and we schedule the free estimate.
  2. A technician measures the opening, checks the frame and hardware, and identifies what actually failed.
  3. You get the options and a price on each, including what happens if the work is deferred.
  4. Glass is cut or ordered to that measurement.
  5. We install, test the operation, and clear the glass and packaging before we leave.

Where We Work

We cover the Town of Palm Beach, zip code 33480, from the north end down through Midtown and the South End. We also work throughout the county, including Delray Beach, Boynton Beach, Lake Worth, and Boca Raton, with the full list on our locations page.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you replace just the glass instead of the whole window?

In most cases, yes. If the frame is square and sound, the pane or the sealed unit comes out and a new one goes in while the frame and hardware stay where they are. On older and distinctive properties, it is often the only way to keep the window looking right.

Can you match glass in original steel casement windows?
We can, and those are among the more common jobs on the island. Steel casements were built to sizes that no longer exist as stock, so the pane is cut to the opening rather than bought to fit. Old wavy or slightly distorted glass cannot be reproduced exactly, but where a house has original glazing worth keeping, we replace only the broken lite and leave the rest alone.

Can impact glass be fitted into my existing frames?
No, and this is the most common misunderstanding we run into. An impact rating belongs to the whole assembly, glass and frame tested together, not to the glass on its own. Putting laminated glass into a standard frame gives you laminated glass, not an impact window. If a pane in an existing impact window breaks, that is different: the glass is replaced in the frame it was designed for.

Who handles approval from my condominium association?
The owner holds the relationship with the association, so the request comes from you, but we supply what they ask for. That usually means the product specification, the frame color and style, and our license and insurance documents. We will not order anything until the approval is in hand, because a rejected unit is nobody’s idea of a good day.

Can you do the work while I am away for the season?
Yes, provided someone can let us in and you are reachable to sign off on the quote. On the island a good share of our scheduling runs through property managers, caretakers, and housekeeping staff. We document the condition before and after with photos so you are not relying on a verbal account when you get back.

Is there anything I can do to slow salt damage?
There is, and it costs nothing. Rinse the tracks, sills, and exposed hardware with fresh water every few weeks on the ocean-facing side, more often if you are close to the water. Salt does its damage sitting in crevices, and washing it off before it builds up buys years on rollers, balances, and locks.

Do you replace glass in the second story and fixed windows?
We do. Fixed picture windows and upper-floor openings need more setup and usually a second person, which affects the price but not whether the job is possible. Fixed panes in particular are worth catching early, since a crack in a window that does not open still spreads.

Are you open on Saturdays?
Yes, from 10 AM to 2 PM. Weekday hours are Monday through Friday, 9 AM to 6 PM, and we are closed Sunday.
